The Registrar Program
Starting a career as a Psychologist has a steep learning curve that can be daunting. The Registrar program offered at DBT in Schools is designed to help support early career psychologists to be the best psychologist they can be. It fits in with DBT in School’s commitment to quality and care.
If you are a recently registered psychologist (within 3 years) or will be registered in the next 3-6 months and love working with children and adolescents in schools, are motivated, passionate and a good communicator, and want to work in a varied role in a stimulating environment, this opportunity may be for you.
What does the Registrar program involve?
One of the advantages of being on the team at DBT in schools is the commitment to quality service and holding therapists accountable to high standards. The Registrar program involves ensuring our therapists are highly skilled. Employees in the program are provided:
- supervision by a Board Approved Endorsed Psychologist in the Clinical or Educational & Developmental Area of Practice. A combination of group and individual supervision will be provided to satisfy AHPRA requirements.
- Full time or part time employment
- Flexitime and flexible work hours
- Salaried or subcontracting arrangements available
- Exceptional variety of work including individual therapy and group work with children and adolescents
- Psychoeducational Assessment with children/adolescents in schools
- Assessment for range of developmental, behavioural and learning issues including learning disorders, ADHD, ID, gifted
- Work with parents
- Work with teachers providing professional development
- Opportunity to work across the life span
- Role located within a multidisciplinary team-based framework, no isolation
- Formal training and supervision in Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, CHC Theory and Cross Battery Assessment
- Seminar Series and ongoing Professional Development and Training
- Formation of an individual professional development plan to match interests and aspirations
- Work in a collegial environment that embraces evidence based ethical practice
- Comfort of working with other recent graduates and gaining advice and support from experienced psychologists
Who is the Registrar program for?
This program is for recent graduates of a MPsych (any stream) or MPP (5+1) who want to develop their clinical skills in a supportive environment that offers a range of learning opportunities.
It is for those who can demonstrate:
- Genuine interest in working with children and adolescent’s in schools
- Desire to learn new skills, be able to learn quickly, and value collaboration
- Strong communicator (orally and written)
- Excellent reflective skills
- Ability to work independently
- Commitment to ethical and evidence-based practice
- Knowledge of and interest in applying cognitive and behavioural principles in practice
