School counselling
We partner with schools to provide on-site counselling to support students and teachers in students developing coping skills, so they can better handle any challenges they may be facing.
School group therapy programs
Our psychologists run a range of therapeutic life skills-based group programs for students at school. Topics: girls and friendship issues, dealing with anxiety, zones of regulation, mindfulness, and attention skills, though we are able to develop and tailor programs for individual schools as requested.
Programs can be designed according to school’s needs.
Assessments
DBT in schools offer behavioural, cognitive and achievement testing that can be conducted at school.
Assessments are provided for a range of issues including; struggling learners, intellectual disability, giftedness, understanding the learning needs of those with Autism and Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), and diagnosis for learning disorders and ADHD.
Comprehensive Psychoeducational Assessments (make this a hot link to the information at the bottom of this document) are conducted using contemporary methods and a range of testing equipment, but focus on an individually designed battery of tests for each child designed to identify unique strengths and weaknesses that can be used for educational and intervention planning.
A comprehensive written Report is provided that is readable to parents and teachers. Information is provided in a format that is easy for teachers to translate into the child’s Individual Learning Plan.
Teacher Professional Development
Teacher’s have a tough job trying to keep track of all that is new in understanding the needs of their students.
DBT in Schools pride themselves in keeping up to date with information, and are experienced in providing professional training. We offer a range of teacher professional development opportunities including topics: Teacher’s self-care, understanding learning disorders, mindfulness training, dealing with challenging behavior, functional behavior analysis for teachers, and dealing with anxious students. Professional Development programs can be tailored and individually developed to suit the school’s needs.
Parent workshops
Parent workshops are pivotal for students, families and schools, to provide support to parents dealing with a range of issues.
Parent workshops are offered throughout the school year including topics; dealing with challenging behavior, building resilience, dealing with an anxious child, parenting from a DBT perspective.
